Handcrafting Your Piece
For breastmilk, it goes through a heating process to remove moisture and bacteria for preservation. This turns to a paste that dries and is ground into a fine powder. The preserved milk (or other inclusions) are mixed with jeweler grade resin and used to created your stone. If you provided a design idea with a sketch and description, or inspiration images, I do my best to bring your design to life. If no design idea is provided, I have creative freedom. The stone is placed in your chosen setting. And lastly, quality checked and packaged with love to be sent on it's way to you.
✨How It All Started…✨
I have always dreamed of starting a business and I’ve racked my brain for over 10 years trying to find an idea that felt “right”, something I’m truly passionate about, something that has purpose but also is fun and artsy. My brother passed away in 2022, so I did my research on creating resin jewelry, and created a few pieces with his ashes. Shortly after, I got married and then pregnant. After having my daughter, I knew I couldn’t leave her to go back to work and I quit my job to stay home with her. The bond I’ve gained with my daughter through breastfeeding has been indescribable and the idea of it ending one day terrifies me for so many reasons. I gained a huge appreciation for breastmilk after seeing all the positive benefits it could provide. I struggled at the beginning to breastfeed due to the pain, but I pushed through and made it to my first goal of one year, and still going. Sometime during those first few months though, I wasn’t sure how long my breastfeeding journey would last due to some medical issues, but I knew when the time comes for it to end, I’ll be extremely sad, so I ordered breastmilk jewelry as a way to hold onto this special moment in time between me and my baby. I knew it would take a few months to arrive, so I wanted it ready to have just in case my breastfeeding journey ended early. 7 months later, I got my necklace and I loved it. But, I wanted more jewelry pieces and 7 months was too long of a wait for me. I already had the experience with making resin jewelry, so I dove into researching how to preserve the milk so I could make more jewelry myself. Whenever I told people about breastmilk jewelry, most hadn’t heard of it before but they loved the idea of it. I had my lightbulb moment- my spark! I knew this was the business idea I’ve been waiting for all these years, a business full of purpose, and is very near and dear to my heart. To be able to help others and preserve their memories for them makes my heart happy and thats how A Drop In Time Keepsakes came to be. Helping mommas commemorate their breastfeeding journey and hard work, and helping others who have lost loved ones, be able to encapsulate their memories into something they can physically hold.
